About Us

The Center for Innovation in College Media was founded in 2006 as a division of a nonprofit educational corporation (Federal EIN 23-7030713) headquartered on the campus of Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tenn.

In its first year of operation, the Center for Innovation in College Media emerged as a national leader for college media operations transitioning from traditional print to digital distribution. Launched by a group of veteran advisers, the CICM is laser-focused on serving as an idea incubator and training center for college new media. Promoting excellence in online media is our exclusive purpose.

Organizational membership is by publication/medium and not by school. Each student staff member of the medium becomes an active member for one year from the date the membership is received.

Active individual memberships are available to college media advisers, faculty, non-student professional staff members, and associate individual memberships are available to interested individuals who work in new media or are affiliated with college media.

website critiques

These judges also rate your site and award special recognition for outstanding work. CICM members receive a discounted fee for site critiques. Critique forms and instructions will be available in November 2007 — watch this space for details.

consulting services

Sometimes it helps to have an outsider come speak to a staff, conduct training, or discuss management issues relating to new media. CICM has set up a “Speaker’s Bureau” of folks who are willing to travel and help you where needed. These individuals have different strengths each can bring to a workshop session or boot camp for your students and fellow advisers. Click here to request additional information.

adviser link

Adviser, faculty and affiliate CICM members are eligible to post profiles on a secure, member-accessible network. Members may locate peers with special expertise, or who work in common campus situations, or who have developed solutions to common problems, and share of information. Available to CICM individual members in November 2007.

student career connection

The CICM is building a secure, Web-based resume/portfolio bank where student members may post employment files. This database will be shared with recruiters seeking prospective employees with new media/multimedia skills. CICM members should watch for the scheduled launch in early 2008.
